Unfortunately, the solution we introduced to try to automatically detect money elements in any theme turned out to not work so well.
In addition, it was more complicated than it was worth.
Instead, we will adopt a 2-phase approach:
- Add built-in support for the most popular themes/vendors in the Shopify Theme Store. If time permits, we will add support for more themes.
- Update the "auto detect" option to detect supported themes based on specific query selectors.

We have recently rolled out a new "Theme type" option, that automatically looks for common pricing elements on your website, and guesses which ones correspond to product prices. It also looks for patterns seen in many themes.
We recommend trying it out if your theme is not supported out of the box. Let us know if it works for you!

We've finished the first version of this solution, and tested it on the following themes:
- Dawn
- Canopy
- Impulse
- Spotlight
- Gain
- Impact
- Enterprise
- Expanse
Soon, we're going to experiment with making this the default for new users.
If it works well, then most people won't need to try custom theme setup.

As a result of this work, we will add a new "Auto-detect" theme type to the "Discounts Embed." Here's a screenshot:
