Auto add to cart
in progress
Tobe Osakwe
Because Buy X Get Y discounts do not automatically the "Y" product to the cart, we have decided to also add support for "auto add to cart" to our app.
As part of this work, we will add a new offer type to the app allowing items to be automatically added to the cart at discounted rates when conditions are met.
If you'd like early access, upvote and comment on this thread. If this feature request has high enough demand, you will receive an inbox once it is available.
Stay tuned for updates.
We are determined to become the best Shopify discount app in 2024!
Best,
Tobe

Hi Tobe, i would love if this feature is able to do this type of offer:
-For purchases above $500, a free X item should be automatically added to the cart.
- I don't want the customer to have to add the free gift to the cart first for the discount to be applied.
Does current setup able to work for this?
Tobe Osakwe
Kah Hing: Great question. Yes, you would be able to create this type of offer!
Auto add to cart offers will use the same logic builder that discounts do.

i am ok with the limitation. the type of offer i am trying to setup is when the customer purchases product A, they will get product B for free (automatically added to the cart) A more advance scenario would be if customer purchases x number of product A then they automatically get product B added to the cart for free.
Tobe Osakwe
Eddie Orders Thank you for your response - I'm glad the current setup will work for you!
You will be able to create both types of offers in our app.

Hi everyone,
Unfortunately, there will be a number of limitations in this feature. This is because we implemented it using a Shopify API called the "Cart Transform Functions API." This API was created for the purpose of bundle apps, but because it has the ability to add new items to the cart, we chose it. In addition, we are only open to using Shopify Functions API for new features, as they allow us to reuse as much of our existing code as possible.
Here are the most significant limitations:
- You can only create 1 "Auto add to cart" per store. This is because you can only have 1 instance of each cart transform. To work around this, you can simply use our app's logic builder to create a logic flow that handles multiple scenarios.
- Any items that are added to the cart will be free. I assume most people will be setting up a "free gift with purchase" type of offer, so this might not be a problem. The reason is that products will be added to the cart as a "bundle," containing the original product, as well as the products that were added. If you scroll down this thread, you can see a screenshot of this in action from June.
- This feature will only display on the checkout page by default. If you want to show the "bundle components," you have to update your cart page Liquid code as mentioned here: https://community.shopify.com/c/online-store-and-theme/display-all-merged-cart-lines-in-cart-page/m-p/2524912
At this point, we have two options:
- Due to the above limitations, do not publish this feature. Ultimately, our app is focused on discounts anyways, rather than free gifts/auto add to cart, and these limitations may render the feature useless for many customers, so we are leaning towards not releasing this.
- Or, do release this, but only after further discussions with customers about what potential dealbreakers would be.
So, if you would like us to release this feature, even with the aforementioned limitations, please comment here. Let us know what type of offer you are trying to set up. If we do not receive any comments within 2 weeks, we will unfortunately have to close this thread.
Our goal is to provide you with the best app possible, so the current implementation doesn't meet your needs, it's best to not release it at all.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Have a great weekend,

Hi Eddie Orders ,
Thank you for your interest in this feature!
I wanted to let you know that while I’ve recently resumed working on feature requests, this particular feature is quite complex and requires careful implementation to ensure quality. I don’t have an exact ETA at the moment, but I’ll be sure to update you as progress continues.
Your patience is greatly appreciated as we work to make this the best experience possible for you.

Tobe Osakwe
Kah Hing Thank you for your enthusiasm about this feature.
We still have a bit more work to do before we will focus on implementing feature requests again.
Right now, we want to ensure the stability and performance of the app before adding new things.
Thanks for your patience,
Tobe

Just wanted to update you all with some screenshots of how "auto add to cart" offers will work in our app.
You will use the advanced logic builder to create these types of offers, but instead of adding "Apply discount" steps, you will add "Add to cart" steps.
These offers use a different Shopify API (called the Cart Transform API), so there are some key differences.
You'll be able to view your add to cart offers in our app, or in "Settings > Checkout > Checkout rules" in your Shopify admin dashboard.
Because these are not discounts, and are cart transforms instead, the products will only be added to order at checkout.
For all cart lines that meet the logic you set, the cart transform will "expand" it into what is basically a bundle of items, containing the original item, and any items your logic said to add to the cart.
Because these are cart transforms, they currently have some limitations:
- They do not support setting a start date/end date
- They cannot be "activated/deactivated," only created/deleted
As we continue development of this feature, we will try to work around these API limitations.
Let us know if you have any questions about this.
Stay tuned for further updates,
Tobe

Also, if the "trigger" product had any discounts on it, then that discount will carry over to the "expanded" line item.
